Metacam (meloxicam) 1.5mg/ml oral suspension for dogs
Metacam for dogs is an oral suspension formulated with 1.5mg/ml meloxicam, the active drug in this liquid medicine. Meloxicam belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) class, in the oxicam group. It works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, the chemical messengers the body releases that drive inflammation and pain.
Meloxicam 1.5mg/ml for dogs is licensed for use in acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders. Each ml holds 1.5mg of meloxicam, equal to 0.05mg per drop. It is a prescription-only veterinary medicine (POM-V), and we dispense it against a valid prescription from your vet.
Metacam oral suspension for dogs is available from Ashcroft 4 Pets with a written prescription from your vet. As a POM-V medicine, it can’t be supplied without one. We’ll dispatch it as soon as your prescription has been received.
An improvement is normally seen within 3 to 4 days. If nothing has changed after 10 days, stop treatment and speak to your vet.
Sizes, storage and price
Metacam is supplied in 10ml, 32ml, 100ml and 180ml bottles. Choose a bottle size above to see the current Metacam price. No special storage is needed. Use within 6 months from opening, and don’t pour unused medicine down the sink. Return it to a pharmacy or vet take-back scheme.

How to give Metacam suspension for dogs?
Metacam oral suspension is given once a day by mouth, either mixed with food or directly into your dog’s mouth. Use the bottle’s drop dispenser for very small breeds, or the measuring syringe supplied in the pack. Shake well before use.
Metacam oral suspension has no separate dosage chart. Metacam dosage for dogs is based on body weight, and the syringe has a kilogram (kg) body weight scale.
Your vet sets the dose on the label. Follow the label.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
People with a known allergy to NSAIDs should avoid contact with the suspension. It can cause eye irritation. If it gets in your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water straight away, and if it is swallowed by accident, seek medical advice and show the label or leaflet.
Every bottle contains the same 1.5mg/ml strength, so only the volume changes.
The right bottle depends on your dog’s weight and how long your vet has prescribed it for. Check your prescription for the size.

No. Under UK law, vets must provide a written prescription if you request one for a POM-V medicine. They may charge a reasonable fee for issuing it, but they cannot refuse. This allows you to choose where to buy your pet’s medication, whether directly from your vet or from a registered UK pharmacy such as Ashcroft 4 Pets.
In the UK, most POM-V prescriptions are valid for 6 months, unless your vet specifies a shorter duration. Prescriptions for Schedule 2 or 3 controlled medicines are usually valid for 28 days and are not repeatable. At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we follow these same UK veterinary guidelines to ensure your pet’s medication is dispensed safely and legally.
At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we are a fully VMD-registered and accredited online retailer. This means every prescription and over-the-counter pet medicine we supply is safe, genuine, and dispensed according to UK law.
We follow all Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) rules, and our team checks every prescription carefully before processing. You can order with confidence, knowing your pet’s health is in the hands of experts and all medicines are traceable, legally supplied, and authentic.
In the UK, most repeat prescriptions for POM-V medicines are valid for up to 6 months from the date your vet issues them. You can order multiple times within this period if your vet has authorised repeats.
For controlled medicines (Schedule 2 or 3), the prescription is valid for 28 days only and cannot be repeated. These medicines are strictly regulated due to their potential for misuse.
At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we follow UK law carefully, ensuring all prescriptions are dispensed safely, legally, and in the exact amounts prescribed.
If your vet prescribes a human medicine for your pet under the Cascade, we can usually dispense against that prescription (with the right checks).
