NexGard Spectra for dogs (3-month supply)
NexGard Spectra is a prescription-only (POM-V) chewable tablet made by Boehringer Ingelheim.
Highly palatable, beef-flavoured chewables formulated for the monthly treatment of flea and tick infestations. As a POM-V medication, NexGard Spectra also provides effective prevention against heartworm and treats intestinal worms (including roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms).
Administer one tablet monthly to ensure year-round protection.Please ensure you select the correct weight bracket for your dog before ordering.
How Nexgard Spectra works?
NexGard Spectra contains two active ingredients, afoxolaner and milbemycin oxime, which target a wide range of external and internal parasites.
Afoxolaner belongs to the isoxazoline family. It blocks chloride channels in the nerve cells of fleas, ticks and mites, causing overstimulation of their nervous system and death. It kills fleas before they lay eggs.
Milbemycin oxime is a macrocyclic lactone. It disrupts nerve signalling in worms, leading to paralysis and death. Afoxolaner acts far more strongly on parasite nerve receptors than on a dog’s.
Your vet will advise how often to give it.

How to administer NexGard SPECTRA chewable tablets?

NexGard SPECTRA chewable tablets are beef-flavoured and palatable. Most dogs readily accept them, with studies showing 9 out of 10 dogs prefer NexGard SPECTRA.
Do not use NexGard SPECTRA in dogs with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients.
Warnings
- Fleas and ticks must attach to the dog and begin feeding to be affected. For this reason, the risk of transmission of parasite-borne diseases cannot be completely excluded.
- Parasite resistance may develop with frequent or repeated use of treatments from the same class. Use should be based on individual assessment and local parasite risk.
- To support effective heartworm control, dogs should be tested for heartworm infection before starting preventative treatment. Only dogs testing negative should be treated.
Precautions for Use in Dogs
- Use in puppies under 8 weeks of age or dogs weighing under 1.35 kg should be based on a veterinary benefit-risk assessment.
- In areas where heartworm is present, dogs should be tested before treatment. Dogs with adult heartworm may require separate treatment, as NexGard SPECTRA is not intended to clear microfilariae.
- The recommended dose must be followed carefully, particularly in collies and related breeds.
Precautions for the Person Giving the Product
- This product may cause stomach upset if swallowed.
- Keep tablets in the blister until use and store them in the outer carton.
- If swallowed accidentally, especially by a child, seek medical advice immediately and show the product packaging.
- Wash hands after handling the tablets.

Does NexGard Spectra cover lungworm?
Yes. NexGard Spectra is licensed to prevent lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum) when given monthly. It reduces the level of infection with immature adult and adult lungworm in the heart and lungs.
Is NexGard Spectra safe for dogs?
NexGard Spectra is licensed for dogs from 8 weeks old and 1.35kg, and can be used in pregnant and nursing dogs. Side effects are uncommon, affecting between 1 and 10 dogs in every 1,000 treated, and include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, loss of appetite and itching, usually short-lived. Very rarely, reddened skin or neurological signs such as tremors or seizures have been reported.
Your vet will check it's suitable before prescribing, particularly for collies and related breeds, breeding males, and dogs on other medicines.
