Product Details

Librela is a monthly subcutaneous injection solution for dogs. Instead of reducing inflammation broadly like most OA pain relief, its active ingredient, bedinvetmab, binds to and inhibits NGF directly at the source of joint pain. It’s supplied in 1 mL vials across five strengths (5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 mg), with your vet selecting the right one for your dog’s weight.

Dosage Indications

  • 5 mg: 5–10 kg
  • 10 mg: >10–20 kg
  • 15 mg: >20–30 kg
  • 20 mg: >30–40 kg
  • 30 mg: >40–60 kg

Giant breeds over 60 kg: the vet draws multiple vials into one syringe for a single dose.

Cold Chain Delivery

Librela must stay refrigerated at 2–8°C. Orders ship in insulated medical packaging with ice packs via temperature-controlled courier. Someone needs to be home to receive it and move the vials into a fridge straightaway. Don’t freeze it.

Instructions

Critical Human Safety Warning
Pregnant women, those trying to conceive, and breastfeeding mothers must not handle or administer Librela. NGF inhibition can affect foetal nervous system development. As a POM-V injectable biologic, it must only be given by a vet or registered veterinary nurse in clinic. Accidental human self-injection is a medical emergency: seek immediate medical care and bring the product box or leaflet with you.

Contraindications

  • Not for dogs with known hypersensitivity to bedinvetmab or excipients
  • Not for dogs under 12 months
  • Not for breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs

Pregnancy, lactation, and fertility

    • Not established as safe in pregnancy, lactation, or breeding dogs
    • Monkey studies using human anti-NGF antibodies showed effects on foetal development

Overdose

  • A study giving 10x the maximum dose monthly for 7 months saw only mild injection-site reactions
  • Any adverse signs after an overdose should be treated symptomatically by your vet

Sizes

Available as a 2-vial pack at Ashcroft 4 Pets.

Frequently asked questions

What does Librela treat?
It's licensed for chronic pain from canine osteoarthritis. It doesn't reverse joint damage, but it quiets the pain signals, keeping dogs comfortable and mobile.
How does it work?
NGF is overproduced in arthritic joints and amplifies pain signals. Bedinvetmab binds to and neutralises it before it reaches pain receptors.
Who shouldn't receive it?
Dogs under 12 months, pregnant, lactating, or breeding females, or those with a known hypersensitivity to bedinvetmab. Not for cats or other species.
Can I give it at home?
No. It must be given by a vet or registered veterinary nurse in clinic, for correct sterile delivery, dosing, and to protect against accidental human self-injection.
How is it different from NSAIDs?
NSAIDs reduce general inflammation. Librela targets NGF specifically, leaving other inflammatory pathways alone, a more focused approach with a different safety profile.
Can I buy it online without a prescription?
No. It's POM-V, so you need a signed vet prescription confirming your dog's weight. Upload it at checkout to release the cold-chain delivery.

Do I need a prescription to buy POM-V pet medicines online?

Yes. POM-V items require a valid prescription from your UK vet.

Photos must be clear. If details are wrong or expired, orders can’t be processed. This is standard across UK pet pharmacies.

No. Under UK law, vets must provide a written prescription if you request one for a POM-V medicine. They may charge a reasonable fee for issuing it, but they cannot refuse. This allows you to choose where to buy your pet’s medication, whether directly from your vet or from a registered UK pharmacy such as Ashcroft 4 Pets.

In the UK, most POM-V prescriptions are valid for 6 months, unless your vet specifies a shorter duration. Prescriptions for Schedule 2 or 3 controlled medicines are usually valid for 28 days and are not repeatable. At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we follow these same UK veterinary guidelines to ensure your pet’s medication is dispensed safely and legally.

At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we are a fully VMD-registered and accredited online retailer. This means every prescription and over-the-counter pet medicine we supply is safe, genuine, and dispensed according to UK law.

We follow all Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) rules, and our team checks every prescription carefully before processing. You can order with confidence, knowing your pet’s health is in the hands of experts and all medicines are traceable, legally supplied, and authentic.

In the UK, most repeat prescriptions for POM-V medicines are valid for up to 6 months from the date your vet issues them. You can order multiple times within this period if your vet has authorised repeats.

For controlled medicines (Schedule 2 or 3), the prescription is valid for 28 days only and cannot be repeated. These medicines are strictly regulated due to their potential for misuse.

At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we follow UK law carefully, ensuring all prescriptions are dispensed safely, legally, and in the exact amounts prescribed.

If your vet prescribes a human medicine for your pet under the Cascade, we can usually dispense against that prescription (with the right checks).
