Product Details

This product cannot be dispatched without a valid written prescription from a registered veterinary surgeon.

Simparica Chewable Tablets for Dogs is a fast-acting Prescription Only Medication (POM-V) that treats and prevents flea infestations, ticks, sarcoptic mange, and ear mites. Containing the active ingredient sarolaner, it travels through your dog’s bloodstream to eliminate ectoparasites before they can lay eggs, breaking the contamination cycle in your home.

Administered once a month, this highly palatable chewable tablet provides comprehensive protection for up to 35 days. It is clinically proven to tackle common UK parasites, including Ctenocephalides felis (fleas) and Sarcoptes scabiei (mange).

Simparica Chewable starts killing fleas within 3 hours and ticks within 8 hours of dosing. One tablet protects your dog for up to 35 days, fitting neatly into a monthly routine. It can be given with or without food, and most dogs take it willingly by hand.

Weight-Based Strength Guide:

Simparica Chewable Tablets are available in six strengths, each matched to your dog’s body weight. Your vet will confirm which strength to use on the prescription. The guide below is for reference only — always follow your vet’s prescription.

  • 1.3–2.5 kg (tiny dog, e.g. Chihuahua): 5mg tablet
  • 2.5–5 kg (small dog): 10mg tablet
  • 5–10 kg (small-medium dog): 20mg tablet
  • 10–20 kg (medium dog, Cocker Spaniel): 40mg tablet
  • 20–40 kg (large dog, Labrador): 80mg tablet
  • 40–60 kg (extra-large dog, Great Dane): 120mg tablet

Only for use in dogs 8 weeks of age and older. Your vet will confirm the exact strength on your prescription.

Note: Dogs over 60 kg require an appropriate combination of tablets as directed by a vet.

Instructions

Directions for Use

Give one tablet by mouth once a month. You can give it with or without food.

If your dog is reluctant to take it directly, it can be hidden in a small amount of food — ensure the whole tablet is swallowed.

Try to give the medication on the same date each month. If you forget a dose, administer it as soon as you remember, then continue on a new monthly schedule from that date.

Never give two tablets at once to make up for a missed dose.

Simparica can be used safely in dogs from 8 weeks of age, provided they weigh at least 1.3 kg.

Frequently asked questions

What is Simparica for dogs?
Simparica is a monthly chewable tablet for dogs containing the active ingredient sarolaner. It's a Prescription Only Medicine (POM-V) that treats and prevents flea infestations, ticks, sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei), and ear mites (Otodectes cynotis). One tablet, given by mouth, protects your dog for up to 35 days.
How quickly does Simparica kill fleas and ticks?

Once given, Simparica begins eliminating fleas in as little as 3 hours, with tick activity reduced within 8 hours, and remains effective for up to 35 days.

What's the difference between Simparica and Simparica Trio?
Standard Simparica contains only sarolaner and covers external parasites like fleas, ticks, and mites. Simparica Trio contains three active ingredients (sarolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel), which adds comprehensive protection against lungworm, heartworm, roundworms, and hookworms. Your vet will prescribe the version that best suits your dog's lifestyle.
Can I buy Simparica for dogs without a vet prescription in the UK?
No. Simparica is classified as a POM-V medicine in the UK. You must have a valid written prescription from a registered veterinary surgeon to purchase it, whether from a local vet practice or an authorised online pharmacy.
How often do I give Simparica to my dog?
It should be given once a month, every month. Try to administer it on the same day each month to keep protection consistent. If you miss a window, give it as soon as you remember and reset your monthly calendar schedule from that specific date.
Can Simparica be given with food?
Yes — most dogs will happily take Simparica straight from your hand. If yours is a bit fussy, pop it in their food instead — it's highly palatable either way, so it works a treat whichever method you use.
Is Simparica safe for puppies?
Simparica can be used safely in puppies from 8 weeks of age, provided they meet the minimum weight threshold of at least 1.3 kg. It is not licensed for puppies younger or lighter than this.

Is Simparica Trio safe for dogs?

Simparica Trio is licensed in the UK and is widely considered safe when used as directed by a vet. Like all isoxazoline-class medicines, there are rare reports of neurological side effects (such as tremors, ataxia, or seizures) in a small percentage of dogs, particularly those with pre-existing neurological conditions. Your vet will evaluate your dog's health history before prescribing it.
My dog vomited after taking Simparica — what should I do?
Vomiting is a known, very common side effect. If your dog vomits shortly after consuming the tablet, the active ingredient may not have been fully absorbed. Contact your vet for advice, as they may recommend re-dosing or switching to a topical alternative.
Can I use Simparica alongside other medicines?
In clinical trials, Simparica was safely co-administered with a wide range of common veterinary treatments, including vaccines, antibiotics, and steroids. However, you should always inform your vet about any other medicines or supplements your dog is taking before starting a course.
Does Simparica protect against lungworm?
No. Standard Simparica does not protect against intestinal worms or lungworm. If your dog requires lungworm protection, your vet may recommend upgrading to Simparica Trio, which contains moxidectin to prevent Angiostrongylus vasorum.
How do I upload my prescription to complete an online order?
At checkout, you will be prompted to upload a clear photograph or scan of your signed veterinary prescription. The pharmacy team will review it before dispatching your order and will contact you directly if there are any issues with dates, weights, or signatures.

Do I need a prescription to buy POM-V pet medicines online?

Yes. POM-V items require a valid prescription from your UK vet.

 Upload your prescription during checkout.

Photos must be clear. If details are wrong or expired, orders can’t be processed. This is standard across UK pet pharmacies.

No. Under UK law, vets must provide a written prescription if you request one for a POM-V medicine. They may charge a reasonable fee for issuing it, but they cannot refuse. This allows you to choose where to buy your pet’s medication, whether directly from your vet or from a registered UK pharmacy such as Ashcroft 4 Pets.

In the UK, most POM-V prescriptions are valid for 6 months, unless your vet specifies a shorter duration. Prescriptions for Schedule 2 or 3 controlled medicines are usually valid for 28 days and are not repeatable. At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we follow these same UK veterinary guidelines to ensure your pet’s medication is dispensed safely and legally.

At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we are a fully VMD-registered and accredited online retailer. This means every prescription and over-the-counter pet medicine we supply is safe, genuine, and dispensed according to UK law.

We follow all Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) rules, and our team checks every prescription carefully before processing. You can order with confidence, knowing your pet’s health is in the hands of experts and all medicines are traceable, legally supplied, and authentic.

In the UK, most repeat prescriptions for POM-V medicines are valid for up to 6 months from the date your vet issues them. You can order multiple times within this period if your vet has authorised repeats.

For controlled medicines (Schedule 2 or 3), the prescription is valid for 28 days only and cannot be repeated. These medicines are strictly regulated due to their potential for misuse.

At Ashcroft 4 Pets, we follow UK law carefully, ensuring all prescriptions are dispensed safely, legally, and in the exact amounts prescribed.

If your vet prescribes a human medicine for your pet under the Cascade, we can usually dispense against that prescription (with the right checks).
