Moxiclear for Cats (imidacloprid and moxidectin)
Moxiclear spot-on solution for cats is a monthly treatment made by Norbrook Laboratories.
It contains imidacloprid 100 mg/ml, which spreads over the skin and deals with fleas on the coat. It also contains moxidectin 10 mg/ml, which is absorbed into the body to reach worms in the gut and heartworm larvae. It treats fleas, ear mites, notoedric mange, roundworm and hookworm. It also prevents fleas and heartworm.
Moxiclear for cats comes in 2 strengths, one for each weight band:
Each dose comes in a single-use pipette, sealed inside a foil sachet. Each box holds four pipettes.
Doesn’t treat ticks, tapeworm, lungworm or lice. Ask your vet about a separate product if needed.
Cats and ferrets only. Never use a dog pipette on a cat, or on kittens under 9 weeks. Ferrets: small cats pipette only.
Don’t use with other wormers from the same family (macrocyclic lactones). Toxic to birds, especially canaries.
Read the official datasheet for use, warnings, side effects and storage.
A valid written UK vet prescription is required, and we can only dispense the quantity it authorises.
As a POM-V item, use Moxiclear as your vet directs.
Pick the pipette by your cat’s current weight. Cats over 8kg need a combination of pipettes, as prescribed. Ferrets have one small cats pipette.
Part the fur at the base of the neck, close to the skull where it’s harder to lick, and apply to the skin in one spot. Let it dry.
Most cats have it once a month, and one dose stops new fleas for 4 weeks. Ear mites and notoedric mange are usually a single dose, with a vet check after about 30 days for ear mites. In ferrets, flea cover lasts 3 weeks.
Cats over 6 months in or travelling to heartworm areas need a heartworm check before starting.
Best applied in the early evening. Keep children away from the treated area until the fur is dry, and don’t let treated cats sleep with you or your children.
Side effects are rare, such as greasy fur or redness where it’s applied. Licking straight after treatment can cause brief drooling. Report any side effects to your vet.
Check the product datasheet for small cats and ferrets or large cats for full details on safe use, and ask your vet or pharmacist if you’re unsure how to apply it.
Available in two sizes, each a box of 4 single-use pipettes. Use the size your vet prescribes, as set out in the product datasheet for small cats and ferrets or large cats.
Cats over 8kg need a combination of pipettes set by your vet. Ferrets use the small cats pipette only.
