In dogs, Clindabactin is licensed to treat the following, where the bacteria are susceptible to clindamycin: - Infected wounds and abscesses - Mouth infections, including gum disease - Superficial pyoderma (a bacterial skin infection) - Osteomyelitis (a bone infection) In cats (55mg tablet only), Clindabactin is licensed to treat the following, where the bacteria are susceptible to clindamycin: - Infected wounds and abscesses - Mouth infections, including gum disease (periodontal disease) **Before and during treatment** Clindabactin isn’t suitable for every pet. Tell your vet if any of these apply: - Your pet has reacted badly to clindamycin or lincomycin before - Your pet has serious kidney or liver disease - Your dog is pregnant, nursing or used for breeding, as clindamycin passes into milk and can give puppies diarrhoea - The patient is a very young puppy or kitten, as use in newborns isn’t recommended - Your pet takes other medicines, including other antibiotics, ciclosporin for skin allergies, or kaolin or aluminium stomach settlers, which need giving at least 2 hours before Clindabactin For courses lasting a month or more, your vet may run regular blood tests to check liver and kidney function. Never give Clindabactin to rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, chinchillas or horses, as it can cause a fatal gut upset in these animals. The tablets are flavoured, so keep them out of reach of all pets to avoid accidental eating.
